Calvary United Methodist Church: Every Member in Mission
Calvary United Methodist Church exists to spread the word of Christ in Green Hills, Middle Tennessee, and the world through an emphasis on mission outreach.
“….for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me. I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me… Just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me.” Matthew 25: 35-36, 40 (New Revised Standard Version)
All baptized Christians are called to a ministry of servanthood in the world. Individuals taking vows of church membership pledge to uphold the United Methodist Church with their prayers, presence, gifts, service and witness.
The Wesleyan emphasis upon the Christian life --- faith and love put into practice – has been a hallmark of our tradition. United Methodists take seriously the directive to be “doers of the word, and not merely hearers.”
Personal salvation always involves Christian mission and service to the world, according to our United Methodist Book of Discipline. “By joining heart and hand, we assert that personal religion, evangelical witness, and Christian social action are reciprocal and mutually reinforcing … Servants of Christ are sent into the world to engage in the struggle for justice and reconciliation. We seek to reveal the love of God for men, women and children of all ethnic, racial, cultural, and national backgrounds and to demonstrate the healing of the gospel with those who suffer.”
Opportunities for service are numerous. Contact a member of the staff if you want suggestions on how to serve. Being in mission will give meaning to your life – and the life of others.
