Adult Sunday School Classes | ||||

The Sunday School classes for adults at Calvary provide a forum for Christian education through Bible study, discussions, lectures, reading and most importantly, through the friendships and support systems established through regular Sunday attendance and social functions. | Ages and Stages Class | |||||
Single and married “50-somethings” and older explore a broad range of traditional and non-traditional topics. These include a Christian perspective on current social topics. Also discussed are traditional subjects might include history of the United Methodist Church, women’s roles in the Bible, Christian spirituality, study of a particular book of the Bible, and seasonal Advent and Lenten studies. Class members take turns leading sessions and a variety of resources and guest speakers are utilized. Social events and service project complete the class activities. ROOM E315 |

| Bible Class | |||||
Composed of married and single “mature adults w/grandchildren” this close and caring class will often have brunch together after Sunday School. The primary study subject is the Bible with guests and class members teaching. Spiced tea and coffee are served during class. The room is conveniently located near the elevator and is equipped with a sound system and plenty of extra seating for visitors and guests. |

| Corner Stone Class | |||||
This class is composed of “30 and 40 somethings” making transitions in their lives into marriage, parenthood and careers and focusing on their spiritual growth in these transitions. They study a variety of topics and welcome guest teachers as well as teachers from within the group. They have regular social activities as a class and participate in service projects within the church. Cornerstone is a great support network for members of the class, and visitors are welcomed and encouraged to become a part. ROOM E204 |

| Encounter Class | |||||
Members enjoy “encountering” theological issues as well as staying abreast of what is happening at Calvary, in United Methodism and in the larger Christian Community. A program planning committee invites guest leaders to conduct the class for one or several weeks. Presentations allow class members to have meaningful encounters with the guest leaders, as well as with one another. This class is open to any individual regardless of marital status or age, however the age ranges from late 40’s to late 70’s. Coffee and fellowship precede the study time. ROOM W363 |

| Genesis Class | |||||
These couples and singles, most with elementary-age children or Jr/Sr. High youth, study topics that include the Bible, social principles, family and faith issues, spiritual life, and the sacraments. Class activities include: service, retreats, luncheons, seasonal parties and class socials. ROOM W359 |

| Give Class - Class Webpage | |||||
This class of young adults in their 20’s and 30’s have named themselves “Give” because they believe that giving time, energy, and resources to the church and community is a vitally important part of the Christian journey. This class emphasizes mission and outreach, and they will enjoy discussion on Sunday mornings led by teacher Terry Carty. Visitors are warmly welcomed. ROOM E223 |

| Horizons Class | |||||
This class discusses topics pertinent to daily life, for example, delving into how our Christian beliefs shape and mold our actions and responses. Biblical studies are paramount to lay the foundations for such interchanges. The class emphasizes the need to be active in discussion, the formulation of ideas and faith development. This class is comprised of middle aged adults and welcomes all for learning and worship preparation. ROOM W351 |

| Logos Class | |||||
Logos is a Bible study class comprised mostly of “30 something” young adults, many of whom are in the midst of the child-bearing and child-rearing years. The class uses the “Adult Bible Studies” from Cokesbury along with the leadership of teacher, Alan Griggs. |

| Mizpah Class | |||||
This Bible study class is truly an “intergenerational class.” The class is diverse in age and marital status. They participate in weekly Bible study using the “Adult Bible Series” with teachers Tommy Leek and Carol White. Visitors and new members are welcome at all times. |

| Passages Class | |||||
This class is comprised of persons in their mid-30’s to mid-40’s, with many of the members having children in elementary grades. The class focuses on growing as a community of faith by utilizing various teachers and class members. This class enjoys learning and socializing. |

| Pathfinders Class | |||||
Teacher Dave Nichols moderates discussions of biblical topics presented in the “Adult Bible Studies” series. The members, ages 60’s and up, participate in several interesting service projects and three annual socials. ROOM E319 |

| Red Letter Class | |||||
Membership is comprised of singles and couples over 65. The primary course of study for this lecture and discussion class is the “Adult Bible Studies” series led by teacher Bill Hodde. Refreshments are served before class. ROOM E102/Fellowship Hall |

| Remnant Class | |||||
Over the years, members of several Sunday School classes have combined to form this active, loving, sharing and diverse class of single and married mature adults. Class sessions begin with fellowship and refreshments, followed by announcements, prayer and then presentation and discussion of contemporary issues or Bible studies. Class members participate in the planning of class programs and social activities. ROOM E308 |

| The Sunodeuo Class | |||||
| This subtitle of the class is “Young Adults Journeying Together.” It is a gathering of couples and singles in their 20’s and 30’s who enjoy a variety of approaches to spiritual growth in a group experience. Sometimes the class discusses books and thoughts which have contributed to the history of Christian thought. On other occasions they study scripture readings assigned to the day, and they always affirm the gift of Christian fellowship as life forming. E307 | |||||
| Young Adults (ages 18-25) Class | |||||
| This class is for individuals currently in college and/or who have recently graduated from high school. Rev. Peter van Eys and Ministry Intern Jessica Bridges facilitate this class.
